I 2B The Journal Times Tuesday, January 25, 2005 Faked assault on Below are portions of recent text from www.robontheroad.com, a page of news and views on the Internet that is updated daily, You can discuss this post with other readers by visiting: www.robontheroad.com The list: 1. Heather Brehm media release from Sheriff's Department This is the text of the actual media release from the Racine County Sheriff's Department: Friday, January 21, 2005 9:00 a.m. In October of 2004, the Racine County Sheriff's Department received a complaint that a 34- year old Racine woman, Heather Brehm, (dob was fraudulently accepting money from fundraisers for a serious medical condition that did not exist. Heather Brehm claimed to have a serious medical condition in the form of a rare ovarian germ cell cancer, and then later claimed that she had developed bone cancer. Investigation by the Racine County Sheriff's Department determined that Heather Brehm had not been diagnosed with or treated for any form of cancer.

The investigation also determined that there were numerous fund-raisers held for Heather Brehm and her family dating back to at least March of 2001, with one of the last taking place May of 2004. These fund-raisers received local media attention and resulted in a large outpouring of community support in the form of significant donations of cash, and other goods and services with a total value that exceeds the Felony threshold of $2,500 for each county currently being charged. On January 21, 2005, a criminal complaint was filed in Racine County charging Heather Brehm with five Felony counts of Theft by Fraud. Sheriff's investigators and the District Attorney's Office have been in contact with Brehm's attorney. Heather Brehm has been ordered to appear on these charges and her first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at 1:30 p.m.

in the Racine County Law Enforcement Center. The investigation is continuing. If you believe that you have relevant information, or that you may have been a victim in this case and have proof in the form of a canceled check or a receipt, you may contact the Racine County District Attorney's Victim Witness Office at (262) 636-3858. This is a tragedy. It violates our trust and makes us gun-shy to help others. It preys on our desire to do good. It is an assault on goodwill itself and in the end I it hasn't even benefited Heather Brehm. What a shame.

3. Goodnight, Johnny Johnny Carson: "And so it has come to this. 1 am one of the lucky people in the world. I found something that I always wanted to do and I have enjoyed every single minute of it." But I guess life does what it's supposed to do and you accept it and go on." "If life was fair, Elvis would be alive and all the impersonators would be dead." Sources: The Desert Sun, Yahoo 4.
